BrewBean Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 16, 2026 · Applies to BrewBean for iOS and Android.

BrewBean is a personal specialty coffee logbook: beans, grinders, waters, recipes, brews and tastings. This page explains which data the app processes, why, and how to delete it. It is written to be read in full in five minutes.

Who is responsible

BrewBean is developed and operated by Marcos Perez, in Argentina. Contact: brewbeancoffe@gmail.com.

What data is processed

Account data. When you sign in with Google or Apple, the identity provider gives us a user identifier, your name and your email address (Apple may hide it behind a relay alias). We use them to identify your account and show you who is signed in. We never ask for a password and never see one.

Content you create. Beans, roasters, farms, grinders and their calibration curves, waters, recipes, brews, sensory results, cupping sessions, photos of your bags and your settings (units, retention, default grinder and water). They are stored on your device and synced to our server so they are available on all your devices and are not lost if you change phones.

Minimal technical data. The server logs the requests it receives (date, path, response code) to operate the service and detect failures. Those logs contain neither the content of your data nor your credentials, and are kept only as long as needed to operate and diagnose the service.

What data is NOT processed

  • We do not access your location: the app does not request that permission.
  • We do not access your contacts, microphone or camera. The bag photos you choose to upload are the only images we process, and only when you upload them.
  • We use no third-party analytics, advertising or advertising identifiers.
  • There are no in-app purchases and no payment data.
  • We do not sell, rent or share your data with third parties. Nobody but you sees your content.

Demo mode

The app can be used without an account, in demo mode, with sample data. In that mode nothing leaves your device: no account is created and no data is sent to the server.

Where and how it is stored

Your data is stored on your device and on our server, hosted at DigitalOcean. All communication between the app and the server is encrypted (TLS). Session credentials are kept in the operating system's protected storage. Access to your data is restricted to your account: the server only returns each user their own rows. Photos are stored in a private bucket and served through short-lived signed URLs.

Third-party services

  • Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple, only to sign in. They are governed by Google's and Apple's privacy policies respectively.
  • DigitalOcean, as the infrastructure provider running the server and the photo bucket.

How long it is kept

As long as your account exists. When you delete it, your data is removed from the server; server backups are kept for a limited period and rotated out. Data stored on your device is removed when you delete the account from the app or uninstall it.

How to delete your account and your data

From the app (recommended, immediate):

  1. Open BrewBean and sign in with the account you want to delete.
  2. Go to the More tab.
  3. Tap Delete my account and confirm.

That removes the account and all its content from the server (beans, grinders, waters, recipes, brews, tastings, photos and settings), signs you out on all your devices and wipes the local data on that phone. There is no grace period and no way to recover it afterwards.

If you can no longer sign in (you lost access to the Google or Apple account you used): write to brewbeancoffe@gmail.com from an address that lets us verify the account is yours. We delete the account and reply within 30 days.

This procedure cannot delete only part of your data while keeping the account; inside the app you can delete any bean, recipe, brew or tasting individually, and that deletion is synced to the server too.

Your rights

You can access all your data at any time from the app (More → Export my data produces a file with all your content), correct it by editing, and delete it as described above. For any other question about your data, write to the contact email.

Children

BrewBean is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date in the header. Relevant changes are announced inside the app.
